| "What
kind of shoes do you recommend
for your class?" |
 |
| I
recommend aerobic or cross-training
shoes because they have more support
under the ball of your feet and
heals (plantar arches), consequently,
they will give more protections
on your back and spine. Running
shoes or walking shoes are not
recommended in my class. They
tend to be light-weighted and
have more support on the front
side of the shoes keeping you
from giving the nice solid foundations
during the intensive moves such
as kicks and jumping jacks. Additionally,
since most of the workout shoes
are fairly expensive and made
with soft leather materials, I
recommend that you wear them only
in the studios. It also keeps
the studio cleanwearing
them outdoors will ruin your shoes
with dirt and rocks on the sole
and with water damage on the leather
materials. |

| "What
is the 'Zone' workout? How can
I use the Life Time Fitness Heart
Rate Training Zones to maximize
my workout?" |
 |
|
Youve
probably experienced before.
Youve workout very hard,
but you havent seen any
results at all. Its a
lot to do with how you workout
not how hard you workout.
Work smart not hard,
right? Life Time Fitness
Heart Rate Training Zone Chart
is displayed on the front wall
of the studio (you can view
the
PDF version). First,
you have to determine your Anaerobic
Threshold (A.T.) There are
3 options to determine your
A.T.: Bronze (Age &
Activity Estimate), Silver
(Perceive Exhaution Method
"Feeling" Measurement),
and Gold (Precision Measurement).
Each descripton is on the left
side of the PDF chart. It is
worth examining this chart to
find out how you can maximize
your workout.
You have 2 sources of fuels
in your body to burn the calories:
fat and glucose (sugar). You
will be able to burn your fat
most efficiently between Zone
2 through 3, and after you hit
the A.T zone (your peak heart
rate), you will most likely
start burning your glucose (sugar).
You may think, "Then, why
should I have to workout so
hard to hit the zone 4 or 5?
The answer is to strengthen
your heart. The more you train
your heart with cardiovascular
exercise, you will not hit the
A.T. so quickly; therefore,
you can burn your fat with ease
not breathing hard or
puffing so quickly, but rather
working smartnot working
hard without purpose.
After examining the chart, you
may find that I ususally try
to provide you with several
options of the routines that
will target your maximum fat-burning
zone, A.T., and sugar-burning
zone for every 10 minutes or
so. For example, I may give
you optional routines of half-time
(slow mode) side-full-squats,
double-time (faster mode) of
side-half-squats or side-lunges,
or jumping jacks. The jumping
jacks will provide you an anaerobic
exercise and more intensive
moves, so it will burn more
SUGAR-calories. Those squats
are a lower impact exercise,
however, you will burn more
FAT-calories by giving yourself
aerobic exercise (with more
oxygens).
For more accurate and effective
ways to measure your Anaerobic
Threshold and maximizing your
workout, Life Time Fitness Personal
Trainers can help you achieve
it with the state of art equipment.
Any personal trainers at Life
Time Fitness can schedule your

Time Fitness Heart Rate Training

| "Should
I get a heart rate monitor? If
so, where can I get it? What kind
of heart rate monitor should I
get?" |
 |
|
I
do recommend that you get one,
so that you will know approximately
how much calories you are burning
in my class. Some of the members
have told me that they have
burnt about 650 to over 1,000
calories during one-hour workout!
What an incentive to know how
and why you are working out
so hard and so faithfully!
If you are planning to buy a
heart-rate monitor for taking
the group fitness classes like
mine, a basic heart-rate monitor
for group fitness (Polar F6
Group Fitness Trainer) that
I own, would do a great job.
But if you are interested in
a multi-purpose heart-rate monitor
for running, swimming and biking,
you may want to invest for a
more high-tech monitor that
you can download your workout
status to your computer, or
e-mail it to your personal trainer
to report your status remotely.
There is a display area by Personal
Trainers Desk. They will
carry the heart-rate monitors
that will not pick up other
members heart rates while
you are working out. I recommend
that you take a FREE heart-rate
monitor seminar at Life Time
Fitness before purchasing it.
Personally, I have bought 3
heart-rate monitors in the past:
S625X Cross Trainer with S1
Foot Pod, RS200 Training Partner,
and F6 Group Fitness Trainer,
but I love the most simple and
inexpensive one (F6*).
